We are proud to announce the launch of our new P.A.S.T. Program. We have teamed up with Diakon, Community Service for Seniors, headquartered in Pottsville who serve the entire Schuylkill County area Senior Citizens.
Everyone knows the financial stress facing a large majority of our Senior population. Many receive help from Meals on Wheels. We have partnered with them to provide pet food for those seniors who have been sharing their own food in hopes to provide for their pets in these hard times. Not only are we helping feed their pets, but also offer low cost vaccination services and low cost spay/neuter options to help provide veterinary care for these pets. Many studies have shown the positive benefits of seniors having pets.
Not only are we helping those who have pets, but those who may not be able to care for a pet on their own. We will be making monthly visits to the senior centers of Diakon. Allowing those who wish to have an animal an opportunity to interact with our shelter pets during these pet therapy visits.
Knowing that we can assist to provide services for their pets, others seniors may want to enjoy the benefits of having a pet. We will also be offering discounted adoptions for our senior pets to our senior friends as part of our W.O.W. Adoptions (Whiskers of Wisdom) as well as discounted adoption rates for any of our shelter animals that may be able to provide companionship to a senior citizen.
